R. Scott Magee, Attorney at Law proudly announces that Mr. R. Scott Magee has become certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and International Association of Chiefs of Police in the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Practitioner Course.
The course is designed for defense attorneys who handle DWI cases and wish to defend clients by utilizing the latest training and information. Attorneys are trained in exactly how to understand DWI reports made by police officers in order to recognize when they are done improperly, to the benefit of their clients.
The SFST Practitioner Course allows lawyers to understand the training law enforcement go through regarding how to administer and critique a field sobriety test. Included along with the NHTSA instruction is teaching on the common errors made by police during the administration of SFSTs. Attorneys are instructed in how law enforcement is trained to direct and interpret the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand tests.
Attorneys have the opportunity to watch an officer administer SFSTs and witness actual physical evidence of intoxication on volunteers with blood alcohol contents ranging from 0.00 to 0.15 in terms of bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and other manifestations of intoxication. Instructors then show how nystagmus can be induced on a person with a low blood alcohol content during the horizontal nystagmus test when the test is administered errantly by law enforcement.
The training is an in-depth, 24-hour NHTSA DWI/SFST course; the very same taken by police officers. The 16 modules are covered to the end that participants become SFST practitioners.
